It is no secret I have a weakness for hot chocolate.
It is still my hot beverage of choice, long after my peers switched to a daily coffee habit. So what does hot chocolate have to do with dementia? Everything and nothing at all.
Nothing at all? Our lives do not become a compressed, medical version of ourselves when dementia enters the picture. So moments for play, a treat, or a visit from a loved one should never become a line item on the care plan or viewed with a medical lens. It should happen simply because, and enjoyed for the beauty of being in a relationship with a loved one.
Life is made up of Moments. Dementia does not change this; these moments become more important with dementia. They are moments of joy, sorrow, care, and faith. So make some hot chocolate in your favorite mug, sit down, breathe, and savor the moment.
This cooler weekend weather has me wanting another Hot Chocolate moment. So join me, grab a mug of hot chocolate, and let’s talk about inspirations.
We may work and walk the dementia journey, but we can’t ignore the rest of our world. We need to continue to seek inspirations that bring us joy, that helps us connect with others. All of which will enhance our ability to care for each other.
Here are some things that have inspired me recently:
1. Courage to Create a book by @clare_mccallanis a book that reminds us that we were created to co-create to God. To use our creative gifts, to not shy away from the title of “Artist” and to boldly live in the fullness of our creativity.
2. City Ballet Podcast has several different shows within this podcast, all revolving around the life, dance, and the music of @nycballet. It leaves you wanting to live in the music, learn to dance, and see the next ballet that is available.
3. @indiarosecrawford is the creator of an imaginative, playful, and beautifully creative world. I won’t say much more than that other, you will have to go see for yourself and enter the world of Toad and Frog.
